Last Man Standing Takes All
The day of reckoning is approaching for one of Northern Ireland’s most experienced kickboxers. Craigavon man James Gillen will compete in a winner-takes-all last-man-standing heavyweight event at the KICKmas 2008 event, set for Belfast’s Waterfront Hall on December 1. The bruising battle is modelled on Japan’s wildly successful K1 event, which pitches the best heavyweights in the world against each other for a $1m purse.
The pay-day on offer for the warriors in Belfast will be a little down on that – but the pressure will be no less intense. Irish heavyweight champion Gillen, will be up against Nige Penlington (England), Edon Bytyqi (Switzerland) and Dylan Scally (Republic of Ireland).
